Pro-athletes are realizing they have choices and that whey may not be the only answer to ensuring they get enough protein every day. Team nutritionists, doctors and even family members and friends are helping introduce grain, seed, bean and other plant-based protein alternatives. It doesn’t always have to do with replacing — it can be about mixing up amino acid ratios. It can also be about getting rid of the bloat, feeling less lethargic or other symptoms of dairy intolerance. With over 30 million people in the U.S. having either an allergy or intolerance to dairy, chances are a few of them are pro-athletes.
